Nothing like a loudspeaker to wake people up

We have a rather nice but quirky little city, which among other things includes a series of city vehicles that drive around making sure people take out their trash and mow their lawns regularly; I refer to them as "the Decency Patrol." Well, today we had a twist on the DP: officially sanctioned vehicles cruising the streets calling the city to wake up, starting at 7 a.m. (although they didn't get to our street until closer to 7:45. Not that the speakers were overly loud, since we've appartently managed to sleep through them the past three years, just a rather interesting way to wake up. Turns out it's an annual event here intended to honor Paul Revere's ride.

On a historical note, I'm pleased to report that today has been waaay better than this day was back a couple of years ago. Then, Amanda was doing fine on vacation in Virginia with a couple of uncles (and their families) while Mom and Dad (for reasons other than Amanda being gone) didn't have much to be happy about other than the cuteness of baby Jared and (for Mom) the fact that Mom had some "power shoes" to wear. This year, the same uncles are visiting out here. Now our cute kids (one up from that other year, too) have been having a great weekend being entertained by said uncles, with such highlights as going to a movie (Jared's first time doing so) and bike riding instruction (Amanda's doing great!). Yes indeed, overall a much better day this year than that other year.
