The power of imagination

This morning, I found two out of three kids playing with "telescopes" while the other longingly chanted "I want a telescope, I want a telescope!" There were, in fact, no telescopes around. However, the weekly unsolicited paper had just entered the house, and both my five-year-old and my two-and-a-half year old had rolled their own "telescopes" from the newspaper. The other visiting two-and-a-half year old apparently hadn't figured out what to do. Not to say that the visitor had no imagination (as he obviously recognized the others' game), but interesting that it had not spread to creative application yet as it had for the others. Also interesting how random newspapers held everyone's attention just about as long as any other toy that's crossed our path.
