Behold, my daffodil! Last year before Curtis was born, the managers announced plans to put in central air, a very welcome change, but a bit of a problem for my little flower patch behind the house (not a big patch, just a few bulbs in the spring). So, with baby on board, I moved my bulbs to the front yard patch, only to watch the squirrels dig them back up and gnaw on them. Things were looking pretty dismal, until finally now, nearly a year later, I see that the squirrels did not get quite as many bulbs as I feared. However, to my dismay, the first real bud I found had already been knocked off its plant by dark forces unknown. But then . . . the bud and its stem stayed lively looking for over 24 hours, despite the separation from the main plant. So, I decided to bring it inside, and lo and behold, it bloomed! I guess I should thank the unknown flower plucker, since I usually hesitate to pick my flowers, even though I always want to. Anyway, here it is, my proof of gardening, sort of.
