A tongue-in-cheek tech tutorial

We have a recurring problem with our DVD player. Every so often, one of the kids (usually Jared) gets a hold of the DVD remote and somehow pushes the magic button or buttons that make the DVD player stop sending a picture to the TV. Such was the case this afternoon. Having now solved the problem (this time anyway), I figured it was time to share my fix-it expertise. Brace yourselves, this is going to be intense . . .

How to make the DVD player send pictures to the TV after it has stopped doing so:

1. Locate the DVD remote.
2. Make sure the DVD remote still has working batteries, properly installed.
3. With the TV on and a disc in the DVD player, aim the remote at the DVD player.
4. Now, push every button on the remote in random order, especially the buttons you never use otherwise. Keep doing this until you get an image on the TV screen.
5. Once an image appears, push a couple more buttons to make the annoying menu go away (sometimes the "menu" button works for that, but no promises)
6. Put the remote up somewhere far out of the reach of whoever pushed the buttons and caused the problem in the first place.

And there you have it, my high-tech guide to solving a common DVD player issue. Or at least an issue that's common at our house . . .
